KickAss Quick Connect Dual Sensing VSR
Detailed Description

The KICKASS team have done it again! A new design in Voltage Sensitive Relays unlike anything currently on the market!

This product is a unique dual-sensing VSR for charging an auxiliary battery system while ensuring that your vehicle's starter battery is isolated when there is no charge from the alternator. Quick-connect Anderson-style plugs allow for easy installation—no hard wiring needed. Side-moulded mounting points offer flexible installation, whether under the bonnet or elsewhere in your 4WD, caravan, or camper. The unit is also water-resistant and suitable for marine applications.

The dual-sensing function intelligently detects the charge of both the auxiliary and cranking batteries, allowing current to flow back when the start battery is low or when an external charger (such as AC or solar) is connected to the auxiliary battery.

The VSR also features an override switch—ideal for emergencies when your cranking battery is discharged and you need to transfer charge from your auxiliary battery.

The Basics on How It Works

When the vehicle's engine is running, the alternator charges the start battery. Once the start battery reaches 13.2V, the VSR connects both batteries, allowing them to charge simultaneously.

When the engine is off and charging stops, the start battery voltage drops. Once it falls below 12.8V, the VSR disconnects the batteries, preventing the auxiliary battery from draining the starter battery.

Key Features:

  • Easy connection via input and output Anderson-style plugs
  • Charge your auxiliary battery without discharging the start battery
  • Protects electronics on the auxiliary circuit from engine start-up spikes
  • Fully automatic operation
  • Override switch (engages relay regardless of sense voltage)
  • Indication light wire (active when VSR is engaged)
  • Override wire (activated by positive ignition feed)
  • Dual sensing (monitors both start and auxiliary battery voltage)

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the KickAss Quick Connect Dual Sensing VSR ensure my auxiliary battery is charged without draining my starting battery?
The KickAss Quick Connect Dual Sensing VSR automatically connects your auxiliary battery to your starting battery for charging when the starting battery reaches 13.20V, and disconnects it when the starting battery drops below 12.8V, both with a 15-second delay. This intelligent system prevents your auxiliary battery from discharging your starting battery, ensuring reliable engine starts.
Can the KickAss Quick Connect Dual Sensing VSR also charge my starting battery from my auxiliary battery?
Yes, the KickAss Quick Connect Dual Sensing VSR features dual sensing capability, allowing it to charge your starting battery from your auxiliary battery. If your auxiliary battery is being charged by a solar panel or an AC battery charger and its voltage is above 13.2V, the VSR will engage, enabling your starting battery to also receive a charge.
Is the KickAss Quick Connect Dual Sensing VSR easy to install in my vehicle?
Absolutely, the KickAss Quick Connect Dual Sensing VSR is designed for straightforward installation with its input and output Anderson style plugs, facilitating a quick connect system that requires no hard wiring. It can be conveniently mounted either under the bonnet or externally, thanks to its side mould mounting holes, offering flexible placement options.
What is the purpose of the override switch on the KickAss Quick Connect Dual Sensing VSR?
The override switch on the KickAss Quick Connect Dual Sensing VSR allows you to manually engage the relay, connecting both batteries regardless of their voltage sensing. This is particularly useful if your starting battery is flat but your auxiliary battery is charged, enabling you to transfer charge to the starting battery to assist with vehicle starting.
How does the KickAss Quick Connect Dual Sensing VSR protect my vehicle's electronics?
The KickAss Quick Connect Dual Sensing VSR is engineered to protect your auxiliary battery circuit's electronics from potentially damaging engine start-up spikes. Its robust design ensures that sensitive equipment connected to your auxiliary battery remains safe and operational, providing peace of mind during vehicle operation.
What is the operating temperature range for the KickAss Quick Connect Dual Sensing VSR?
The KickAss Quick Connect Dual Sensing VSR is built to perform reliably across a wide range of Australian conditions, operating effectively in temperatures from 0 to 50°C. This ensures consistent performance whether you're exploring the outback or simply enjoying a weekend getaway.
How will I know when the KickAss Quick Connect Dual Sensing VSR is actively connecting my batteries?
The KickAss Quick Connect Dual Sensing VSR features a built-in LED light that illuminates when the VSR is engaged, clearly indicating that both your starting and auxiliary batteries are connected and charging. Additionally, an indication light wire (yellow) is provided, allowing you to connect an external 12V light for remote monitoring.
