Awesome portable and robust solar panel,

Love this thing, I bought to charge my Swag 88 battery bank and they work well together. It’s small when folded up and comes in a good carry bag . Quick and Easy to set up and connect.

    Great for car dashboard

This was my first solar panel. Really happy with it, fits great on the dashboard of my car (ML280).

It plugs in direct to a Samsung S22 and charges no issue. Have also charged successfully to a portable battery, both without an inbetween regulator.

The Cygnett ***** powerbank complained about low voltage, so I am adding a Kickass portable battery with built in regulator to connect the solar panel to as my front seat setup.

For mobile phone alone, the panel produced about double what I need on sunny days. When connected while driving, it powered the android with gps on in remote rural with low bars (which uses more poeer to connect) with excess to recharge the battery on top.

    Good, but not perfect

Great quality panel, but: The panel doesn't come with any cables so you need to outsource. The housing around the ports is also very narrow making to find a DC5521 cable that actually fits and plugs in properly.

    Kickass solar panel

Sad to say, there’s no charging cable which is really a necessity. Otherwise it’s a good product.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much power can the KickAss 60W DC Solar Blanket generate and what devices can it charge?
The KickAss 60W DC Solar Blanket delivers a maximum power output of 60 watts via its DC5521 port and up to 18 watts through its USB-C QC3.0 port. It can charge phones, tablets, cameras, laptops, and compatible portable power packs simultaneously.
This solar blanket uses advanced TOPCon monocrystalline cells with up to 25% efficiency, ensuring reliable and consistent power even in less-than-ideal sunlight. Its dual outputs provide versatile charging options for a range of outdoor and off-grid devices.
Is the KickAss 60W DC Solar Blanket compatible with my existing power bank or device?
The solar blanket features a DC5521 output rated up to 60W max and a USB-C QC3.0 port rated up to 18W max, compatible with most phones, tablets, laptops, and KickAss power packs like the KAPHUB-150 and KAPHUB-380.
Always check your device’s input requirements to ensure compatibility. The blanket must be connected via a suitable solar regulator when charging batteries, preventing damage and optimising performance.
How do I set up the KickAss 60W DC Solar Blanket for the best charging performance?
Unfold the solar blanket to 1376 x 309 x 15 mm and secure it using the predrilled eyelets and included carabiners. Position it facing north in the Southern Hemisphere at an angle between 20° and 40° to the sun for optimal energy capture.
Regularly adjust the angle throughout the day to follow the sun’s path. Avoid shading the panel and place it on a stable surface or securely attach it to tents, vehicles, or backpacks for maximum efficiency.
How safe is it to use the KickAss 60W DC Solar Blanket outdoors?
The solar blanket is IP67 rated for dust and water resistance, with a durable ETFE coating that protects the TOPCon solar cells from harsh weather and corrosion. It operates safely between -10°C and +65°C.
For safety, never connect the panel directly to a battery and always use a compatible solar regulator. Keep the junction box dry and connect or disconnect in the shade to reduce electric shock risk, ensuring secure and reliable outdoor use.
Can I use the USB-C port on the solar blanket to charge my laptop directly?
Yes, the USB-C QC3.0 port provides up to 18W max output, suitable for charging phones, tablets, and smaller laptops that support USB-C charging. Charging starts automatically when sufficient sunlight is available.
For best results, avoid shading the panel and maintain a good angle to the sun. The USB-C port offers a convenient, direct charging option for your devices while on the move or off-grid.
How portable is the KickAss 60W DC Solar Blanket for travel and adventure?
The solar blanket weighs only 1.96kg and folds down compactly to 325 x 309 x 45 mm, making it easy to carry in backpacks, travel bags, or car trunks. It also includes a carry bag for protection during transport.
Its lightweight and compact design, combined with pre-cut eyelets and carabiner hooks, make it highly versatile and ideal for camping, hiking, and other outdoor adventures where portability and quick setup matter.
What maintenance or cleaning does the KickAss 60W DC Solar Blanket require to keep it working well?
To maintain optimal performance, disconnect the solar blanket from all power sources before cleaning. Wipe the ETFE-coated surface gently with a soft cloth to remove dust or dirt without damaging the panel.
Regular cleaning ensures maximum sunlight absorption and prolongs the life of the solar cells. The durable ETFE coating also protects against environmental wear, so your solar blanket stays efficient and reliable over time.
Can I connect multiple KickAss 60W DC Solar Blankets together to increase power output?
Yes, multiple panels of the same model and rating can be connected in series, parallel, or series-parallel configurations, provided the combined open-circuit voltage (VOC) does not exceed your solar regulator’s limits.
This flexibility allows you to scale your solar setup for higher power needs while maintaining safe operation. Always use appropriately rated cables and compatible regulators to ensure efficient and reliable charging.
