Yes. The PowerBoss has undergone extensive in-house engineering development, rigorous field testing, and continuous refinement. It has been specifically designed to meet the demands of off-grid living in tough Australian environments.

The PowerBoss is designed for installation in sheltered environments where it is protected from direct exposure to the elements. While it’s built tough for off-grid use, it is not suitable for mounting in open or fully exposed outdoor locations.  

Ideal installation points include the back of a canopy, inside a 4WD setup, enclosed trailer compartments, or other semi-protected areas. These environments provide the ventilation and protection needed to ensure reliable operation while keeping the unit safe from water and dust ingress.  

If you want to install the Powerboss in an enclosed area, it features a dedicated external fan output that can be used to wire in an external fan to circulate air into the enclosed space. The external fan output is controlled via the same logic as the internal fans in the Powerboss, so if the internal fans are running, the external fan will also be enabled.  

 As best practice, always ensure the mounting area remains dry and well-ventilated to maximise the performance and lifespan of your Powerboss.  

Yes. The Powerboss supports simultaneous AC and solar charging, so you can make the most of available solar while topping up via mains power or your generator for even faster charging.

We understand that combining multiple functions into one unit can raise questions about redundancy. That’s why the PowerBoss has undergone years of rigorous testing and refinement to ensure long-term reliability. In the unlikely that you do experience a fault that can’t be resolved through basic troubleshooting, we’ll simply replace the entire unit with a brand-new one under our no-fuss 2-year warranty.

The Powerboss is designed as a complete all-in-one unit, so individual internal components (like the inverter or charger) aren’t intended to be replaced separately. However, with our 2-year warranty and simple replacement policy, there’s no need to worry. If there’s a fault, we’ll swap the entire unit – no with repair delays or part sourcing.

The KickAss Powerboss is sold in standardised kits that include all the essential components required for a clean, reliable installation. Each kit comes with the necessary hardware to connect your battery, solar, DC loads, AC input and output cables and the required tools for wiring up the unit.  

Depending on your intended setup, you can choose from a range of optional installation kits:  

• Alternator Installation Kit – for linking to your vehicle’s alternator via a DCDC connection. The Alternator Kit comes in a 6.5m and 8m configuration.  
• Trailer Wiring Kit – If installing the Powerboss in a caravan or trailer, the Trailer Wiring Kit provides a weatherproof lockable 3 pin connection on the towbar of the vehicle. The Trailer Wiring Kit runs from the Powerboss in your caravan or trailer to the draw bar. You'll then need to pair this with a KickAss Premium Heavy Duty Wiring Kit that will run from the vehicle’s alternator to its tow bar.

No – you don’t need to be a licensed electrician to install or use the KickAss Powerboss. Along with having all the device specific certifications, the Powerboss has been designed to ensure the installation is compliant with AS/NZS 3001.2, which is a key Australian Standard covering electrical installations, connectable electrical installations, and supply arrangements.  

This certification means the Powerboss has been designed and tested to meet strict safety standards for plug-and-play use. We’ve taken care of the technical compliance, so you don’t have to worry about it. Simply connect the unit to your system as instructed, and you’re ready to go – no complex wiring or specialist installation required. It’s the ultimate all-in-one off-grid solution, made to be safe, simple, and ready to go straight out of the box.  

Additionally, the Powerboss is fitted with an RCBO (Residual Current Circuit Breaker with Over Current Protection) and standard IEC AC input and output connections, meaning there is no direct AC wiring required to install the system.  

While it’s been optimised for use with KickAss Smart Lithium and Ultra-X batteries, the Powerboss can work with other 12V lithium battery brands as long as they meet the required specifications. However, features like real-time SOC integration may not be available with non-KickAss batteries. For these reasons, we recommend using the Powerboss with KickAss batteries.

The KickAssPowerboss includes a 2-year warranty covering manufacturing defects and faults. If an issue arises that cannot be resolved through basic troubleshooting, the entire unit will be replaced under warranty.
